Set "Temp" workers up for success not failure

Yesterday the shop had a conversation with a representative of a staffing agency. During the conversation, the representative confirmed many of the issues I had been uncovering as I studied the hiring of temporary positions. 1. Companies are farming out some parts, if not all, of the hiring process. Hiring from headquarters rather than the location in which the worker is to be hired. 2. Companies reliance on job applicants submitting applications online. 3. The number one reason new "temp" workers are sent back to the agency is the lack of training by the company. 4. Setting a low value on the "temp" worker, therefore, setting the stage for failure. 5. A clear distinction between "temp

I can't tell if I am amused or bemused

I can't tell if I am amused or bemused at how people who work in larger organizations feel like they are the senior when it comes to intelligence, likewise for people who have a higher income level. I hate to tell them that in my conversations with people, it does not quite work that way.

The trouble with Lakers

The trouble with the Lakers is they do not seem to understand building a complete team comes before championships. "And while neither James nor Lakers management has shown much enthusiasm for coaxing along a young core — the Lakers tried to ship half the roster to New Orleans last week — they are stuck in this together. James was supposed to be the savior of a flagship franchise gone astray; salvaging the final months of this year would be a key indicator that he still wields that type of power."

Does good corporate stewardship exist

I have noticed a local manufacturer who, several years ago, convinced the local city council that it needed property tax relief and help to raise money for expansion. The benefits as given are as follows; more people would move to my town, stimulating the need for new housing and more business for the local businesses. As far as I can determine, neither has been the case. Number one, the pay scale working on the line at this manufacturer is not high enough for the workers to be able to afford new housing, and existing housing is cost-prohibitive. Number two, I have noticed that very few people seem to leave the facility at lunchtime whereas in the past employees were regulars at the local

Finite or infinite which game are you playing

How does Super Bowl LIII apply to today's business environment? Coaches like Bill Belichick of the Patriots and Nick Saban of Alabama, Dabo Swinney of Clemson, play the infinite game of team building while their counterparts are playing the short term finite game of football. They may not win every championship, but they are in a position to win championships year in and year out because they understand that a winning formula and team takes time to build. To add even more perspective to the infinite game mix are coaches such as Bill Snyder of Kansas State University. Coach Snyder's program used the infinite game perspective of building character in young men and coaching them to play abov
