Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin

The following quote sums up my philosophy for problem-solving. ""Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds!" as in a haphazard approach to solving problems. Thirty years of having a hand in all aspects of the manufacturing process have given me the skills to analyze and break down into steps most problems. I prefer to use the keep it simple method when finding solutions to problems. -- When you are first learning any new activity, it is imperative to be consistent. If you change too many things at once, you don't know what brought about a good or bad result. If you can designate and change just one thing, you will have a much better chance of being successful and understanding the solution. If, after a run of successful production, you run into a problem, go back to a known good state and start there. Many times out of frustration we try to change too many variables and that almost always leads to a worsening of the problem. The keep it simple approach has served me well in developing new skill sets.
